Mammography Quality Standards Act(MQSA)
Course Syllabus
Hologic Inc. manufactures a line of technologically advanced mammography x-ray products designed to meet the broad range of needs from the hospital, to the private practitioner. All equipment manufactured by Hologic Inc. will meet or exceed the MQSA standards providing our customers the highest quality, reliability and satisfaction well into the future.
Course Description:
Mammography Quality Standards Act – PowerPoint Presentation Self – Paced
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the industry guidelines regulated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) of 1992 and any subsequent changes and updates that have occurred to this standard. Major topics to be covered in the course include: Clinical Applications including terminology and anatomy, Individual Responsibilities, Requirements of MQSA, American College of Radiology (ACR), Radiation Safety including ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable), public law 102-539, and lastly some key information from Hologic Inc as it applies to these areas. This course will be taught online or via CD-ROM and students will progress through the course at their own pace. There will be periodic progress checks that the student will be required to successfully complete before moving on to the next sections. A final exam on the entire course must be passed in order to receive credit for this course. For technicians certified by the International Certification Commission (ICC), this course can be submitted for 1 continuing practice points towards the certification renewal requirements (under Category I – Courses).
This course is a pre-requisite for anyone attending the Hologic Inc. M-IV
Platinum, Affinity
Platinum, or MultiCare
Platinum equipment specific training course
and a recurring requirement for all Hologic Inc. field
service employees based on equipment refresher training.
Hologic Inc. employees must complete this course online.
Course Prerequisites:
Students should possess a basic understanding of x-ray systems, x-ray theory, and image quality. This can be accomplished by attending an introductory course or at least 3 years field experience as service technician.
Fluency in English, both written and oral is required.
Materials Required:
Students must bring a laptop with the following minimum
configuration: 700mHz Pentium, Windows 2000 or newer, CD-R,
a 256 Mb flash drive, one available 9pin RS232 serial port, one
available parallel port or USB port(s) for either of the previously
stated port requirements, RJ-45 Ethernet port, adequately sized
HDD with 1 Gb available space, 64M RAM and hyperlink
capability. Software requirements also include Microsoft Office
with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Course Cost and Enrollment:
There is no charge for this course as it is a pre-requisite for attending either the M-IV Platinum, Affinity Platinum, or MultiCare Platinum Course and is included in the current tuition cost. Use this link: Request

Course Schedule:
Upon acceptance to the M-IV Platinum, Affinity Platinum, or MultiCare Platinum course students will complete the course in a self paced environment. An end of course test will be given the first day of class. To receive a Certificate of Training, you must score at least a 70% on this test. Successful completion exempts you for the balance of the calendar year from retaking the course.
All Hologic Inc. field service personnel must have completed this course in the year they are scheduled for attending the initial M-IV Platinum, Affinity Platinum, or MultiCare course or refresher training for these items.
