Over the last 15 years, Hologic scientists have refined the R2^™ ImageChecker^® algorithm. Trained on thousands of biopsy proven cancers, the algorithm marks regions-of-interest that have well understood features of calcifications or masses.

The ImageChecker algorithm looks for characteristics commonly associated with cancer - specifically, calcifications and masses (including architectural distortions). The algorithm ranks its findings by prominence of features, places marks on those regions above a fixed threshold (operating point) and then sends the results to the review workstation.
