Course Syllabus

Hologic Inc. manufactures a line of technologically advanced mammography x-ray products designed to meet the broad range of needs from the hospital, to the private practitioner. All equipment manufactured by Hologic Inc. will meet or exceed the MQSA standards providing our customers the highest quality, reliability and satisfaction well into the future.

Course Description:

This course is presented as a self-paced PowerPoint presentation and is a required pre-requisite for anyone attending or planning on attending Hologic's M-IV Platinum, M-IV Platinum with Stereo Loc II, MultiCare Platinum, or MultiCare Platinum / Stereo Loc II Biopsy Systems courses at any of Hologic's training facilities.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the MQSA rules that govern the use and servicing of mammography equipment in the United States and its Commonwealths. Topics covered in this course are mammography clinical applications, terminology and anatomy, individual responsibilities under the rule as they pertain to technologists, radiologists, biomedical and service personnel. Other introductions to this training include the ACR (American College of Radiologists) and their role with regard to MQSA. Radiation safety, the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) rule (ref. Public Law 102-539), and key contributions from Hologic with regard to these topics is also reviewed.

This presentation is e-mailed to each candidate enrolled for training for their action prior to attendance. During the first day of class, the student will be administered a short exam to be taken in a proctored classroom environment. Each student will receive credit for the course after successfully passing the examination.

Note:While the Stereo Tactic Biopsy System does not fall under MQSA at this time, the Board of Governors and the advisory committee members have recommended to the FDA that stereo tactic be included under MQSA law and their recommendation was accepted. It is anticipated that inclusion will occur in the very near future. Anticipating this, Hologic has included this course as a pre-requisite for the MultiCare Platinum.

For technicians certified by the International Certification Commission (ICC), this course can be submitted for 1 continuing practice points towards the certification renewal requirements (under Category I - Courses).

Course Prerequisites:

Fluency in English, both written and oral is required.

Materials Required:

Students must have a laptop computer, with the following minimum configuration: 700mHz Pentium, Windows 2000, Xp or Vista, CD-R, one available parallel port, HDD with 1 Gb available space, 64M RAM, and internet access capability. Software requirements include Microsoft Office with Word, Excel and PowerPoint (Open Office is not acceptable as it may not work with the documents used for this or in other parts of the associated course).

Course Cost and Enrollment:

There is no charge for this course as it is included in the current tuition cost for the other course offerings.

Course Schedule:

Upon acceptance to the M-IV Platinum, M-IV Platinum with Stereo Loc II, MultiCare Platinum, or MultiCare Platinum / Stereo Loc II Biopsy Systems courses, students will complete the course in a self paced environment. An end of course test will be given the first day of class. To receive a Certificate of Training, you must score at least a 70% on this test. Successful completion exempts you for the balance of the calendar year from retaking the course.

All Hologic Inc. field service personnel must complete this course in the year they are scheduled for attending the initial M-IV Platinum, M-IV Platinum with Stereo Loc II, MultiCare Platinum, or MultiCare Platinum / Stereo Loc II Biopsy Systems courses or refresher training for these items.
