Hologic, Inc. manufactures a line of digital general radiography products. At the heart of each of these systems is the DirectRay® operator console incorporating a digital image receptor. The Console is also supplied to OEMs and can be used to retrofit existing general radiographic systems using screen/film technology. Accordingly, the 5 day course is divided into two distinct course elements: The DR operator console and the DR System.

Course Description:

DR Operator Console - The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the operation, configuration, theory, and maintenance of the console and its associated digital image receptor. The course includes an overview of the operator console application, digital image quality control and assessment, and software troubleshooting. Software tools and technical bulletins are provided to the class to aid in maintenance.

DR System - The purpose of this course is provide a systems level understanding of the DR product line to configure, calibrate, and perform preventive maintenance. The course provides an introduction to the DR system as an integrated product comprised multiple sub-systems including generator, overhead tube crane, bucky etc. The product line is demonstrated using the EPEX™ and Radex™ systems. The lab portion the course extends the console course by offering hands-on practice in performing preventive maintenance tasks.

A final multiple-choice test is given to check understanding.

Course Prerequisites:

Students should possess a basic understanding of x-rays systems, x-ray theory, and image quality. A solid foundation in basic electricity and electronics is required. An understanding of both UNIX and DOS is also required, as is some background in basic networking. Students should bring a laptop having both a 9-pin D-shell serial port and a RJ-45 Ethernet port. As well as a Cat 5 crossover cable and Radiation film badge or other personal dosimetry device. Fluency in English, both written and oral, is required.

Course Cost:

The DR operator console course and DR systems service course are offered at a cost of $6,800 USD. Course costs are waived for Hologic, Inc. employees and its designated agents.
