(NASDAQ: HOLX) and The Agfa-Gevaert Group today announced they have finalized the terms of a Joint Development and OEM Purchase Agreement contemplated by their Letter of Intent entered into last April 2002. Under the terms of the agreement, Hologic will manufacture for Agfa, under the private label, "Embrace", a digital mammography system for distribution to specific international markets. The system utilizes Hologic's patented and acclaimed direct-to-digital amorphous selenium technology, which will be combined with Agfa's strong portfolio of image and information management systems. "Finalizing this agreement with Agfa-Gevaert moves us one step closer to making our direct capture digital mammography technology widely available on a global basis to healthcare providers and the women they serve," said Jack Cumming, Hologic's Chairman and CEO. " We believe this technology will prove to be a tremendous aid to physicians in the early detection of breast cancer and we are pleased to work in partnership with Agfa to support this goal." "Our 'Embrace' Women's Care portfolio is designed to maintain the high quality standards of analog imaging while facilitating the move to a digital workflow," said John Glass, General Manager, Agfa HealthCare and member of Agfa's Board of Management.
