Case 188 - Nodular Density with Breast Tomosynthesis
Stephen Poplack, M.D. Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center

Conventional Digital Image Breast Tomosynthesis Image
Clinical Evaluation:
Nodular density: round mass with well defined margins contains fat.

Breast tomosynthesis is a 3-dimensional imaging technology that involves acquiring images of a stationary compressed breast at multiple angles during a short scan. The individual images are then reconstructed into a series of thin high-resolution slices that can be displayed individually or in a dynamic ciné mode.

Digital breast tomosynthesis offers a number of exciting opportunities including the possibility of reduced breast compression, improved diagnostic and screening accuracy, 3-D lesion localization, and contrast-enhanced 3-D imaging

The quality of images presented on the World Wide Web varies greatly depending on the computer system, monitor, and web browser used to visualize the images. Also the images have been cropped and compressed to save download time. For that reason, Hologic does not recommend that you use the images as shown here to judge the system image quality.

CAUTION: Breast Tomosynthesis is an Investigational Device limited by Federal Law to investigational use.
