Hologic is serving up aces for women’s health & equality in a landmark way by becoming the title sponsor of the Women’s Tennis Association Tour.

World leaders may agree that women are the foundation of families, economies and societies, but when it comes to action, more needs to be done. And those actions need measurable results.


Hologic and Gallup Inc. jointly addressed the void of data by creating the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index, which provides unprecedented, measurable insights from women’s perspectives about their own health across 116 countries and territories – the largest women’s health survey ever conducted. Results from the Index’s first year make clear that much more must be done for women’s wellbeing.


Hologic increasingly engages the world’s leaders with a data roadmap for progress provided by the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index. The outreach to individuals and groups including heads of state, health ministers and nonprofit groups has grown since Hologic released topline Index data around the U.N. General Assembly in September 2021.

World Economic Forum

On International Women’s Day (March 8), Hologic Chairman, President and CEO Steve MacMillan was featured in the World Economic Forum’s blog titled "No exceptions, no exclusions, no excuses – 6 industry experts make the case for women’s health.” He advocates putting women’s health at the forefront and using science-backed data to guide decision-making.

In the same month, Hologic’s Laura Gillespie, a Fellow at the World Economic Forum, developed a briefing on women’s health with Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Together they focused on gender-based inequalities in healthcare and the urgent need to understand the factors undermining women’s wellbeing and resilience.


To kick off Women’s History Month, Hologic partnered with Concordia to convene a panel about the power and perceptions of preventive care in women’s health. Dr. Susan Harvey (Hologic’s Vice President of Worldwide Medical Affairs) joined Nancy G. Brinker (former U.S. ambassador to Hungary and founder of Promise Fund of Florida and Susan G. Komen), Courtney Hesselbacher (a director at Gallup), Her Excellency Toyin Saraki (President of The Wellbeing Foundation) and Ali Rogin (a journalist with “PBS NewsHour”) for the discussion. The conversation highlighted the importance of preventive care and assessed strategies for elevating women’s health at both global and local levels.

Meridian International Center

To culminate Women’s History Month, Hologic partnered with the Meridian International Center to host a high-profile conversation (featured above) on March 31 about the future of women’s health and equity around the world. The event brought together speakers including Dr. Harvey from Hologic; H.E. Bergdís Ellertsdóttir, Ambassador of Iceland to the United States; H.E. Uzoma Emenike, Ambassador of Nigeria to the United States; Jayne O’Donnell of USA Today; former Ambassador Brinker; Benedicte Clouet of Gallup and several other countries’ embassy representatives who specialize in gender and health policy.


Brinker wrote a March 2 op-ed for Devex, one of the world’s largest media platforms for development and humanitarian issues. She emphasized that prioritizing women’s health, backed by data, is essential to ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Brinker also highlighted the importance of having a holistic view on women’s health, which includes collaboration among the private, governmental and nonprofit sectors.

On International Women’s Day, Hologic partner Katie Couric Media highlighted the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index in its article titled “Which Countries Value Women’s Health Highest? The Rankings Might Surprise You”, stressing that when it comes to taking care of women’s health, every country has work to do.


Gallup spotlighted unsettling data from the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index about domestic violence, including the increase in domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic, in a March article titled “The Shadow Pandemic: How Widespread Is Violence Against Women?”

During the same month, Gallup collaborated with Hologic to share a video featuring the real-life health challenges of several women from around the world.

Country-specific outreach

Hologic has raised awareness of the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index in a growing number of countries. Here are some examples from recent months:

France: The Hologic France team officially launched the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index with a high-profile roundtable event in January featuring key opinion leaders and policymakers. The gathering marked a strategic first step in establishing Hologic France as a major stakeholder in women’s health.

Sweden: The Hologic team partnered with Medicon Valley Alliance to host a January panel titled “Women’s Health – International Outlook and Regional Challenges.” The discussion explored regional differences in prevention, screening and mammography, as well as the impact of COVID-19 on women’s health. 

Belgium: The Hologic Belgium team officially launched the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index in February with a panel discussion on women’s health issues, including cancer screenings, endometriosis and domestic violence.

Africa:  Hologic’s Tanja Brycker (a Vice President of Strategic Development), Nyawira Njeru (Head of Market Access and Government Affairs in Africa) and Dr. Harvey participated in the Africa Women’s Health symposium. The event called for greater prioritization of women’s health and solutions rooted in preventive care. On March 16, Njeru gave an interview to Kenya’s Capital FM – reaching over a million Kenyans with insights from the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index.

Netherlands: The Hologic Global Women’s Health Index officially launched in the Netherlands with a panel event titled “Women’s physical and mental health: What is the situation in the Netherlands?” The discussion sparked interest from lawmakers, health insurers and academics.

Canada: The Hologic Canada team recently sponsored an article in The Global and Mail titled “Canadian Women are Facing a Post-Pandemic Crisis,” featuring Hologic’s work with the Canadian Mental Health Association and Breast Cancer Support Fund. Additionally, Hologic Canada General Manager Douglas Donovan wrote an opinion piece on March 8, “Canadian women are not OK this International Women’s Day,” emphasizing the need for significant improvements in women’s health. These articles built on a late 2021 event headlined by Canadian First Lady Sophie Grégoire Trudeau that spotlighted the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index.

Japan: The Hologic Japan team celebrated International Women’s Day by convening a panel of leading voices in the women’s health space, including Dr. Ruriko Tsushima, lawmaker Hanako Jimi and diversity and inclusion expert Tukiko Tsukahara. The panelists discussed findings from the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index and highlighted actions critical to moving women’s health forward.
