Hologic, WTA Score Victories for Breast Health and Preventive Care
On a sun-drenched morning at the 2024 Eastbourne International tennis tournament in the United Kingdom, a collective cheer symbolized three important victories won: for women’s health, for breast health and for preventive care.
The cheer came from breast cancer survivors who participated in a tennis clinic that Hologic and the WTA Foundation co-hosted. These guests represented the nonprofit organization Prevent Breast Cancer, which raises awareness about the disease and extends support to patients and their caregivers. They traveled for four hours to reach the tournament site so they could join Hologic, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and coaching legend Judy Murray in spotlighting a crucial message: that regular screenings for breast cancer, particularly routine mammograms, save lives.
The students erupted in a group cheer after they successfully performed a skill that Murray taught. As they looked at each other and smiled, the instructor said: “You are winning on this court and you are winning in life. I’m honored to help you champion better health.”
Hologic became title sponsor of the WTA Tour in 2022.
The Eastbourne event marked the latest in a series of Hologic-WTA activities worldwide that encourage women to make their health a top priority and underscore the significance of preventive care, which includes detecting and treating diseases early. A growing number of tennis professionals and retired greats have contributed to this effort to champion women’s health. They have participated in panel discussions, engaged attendees at women’s conferences, recorded special videos and joined awareness-building campaigns on social media.
In addition, Hologic made the inaugural donation to launch the WTA Foundation Global Women’s Health Fund, collaborating with the WTA, the Gates Foundation, UNICEF and others to improve women’s well-being. The company also supports research and education through the Hologic WTA Women’s Health Taskforce, which brings together experts on women’s health and athletic performance from across the world.
