Hologic Partners with The White Dress Project to Bring Fibroid Education and Patient Voices to the Empowerment Experience

At the Empowerment Experience held during Fibroid Awareness Month, advocates, educators, clinicians, lawmakers and patients came together with a shared goal: Help more women understand their fibroid health and feel supported in their care.

Hosted by The White Dress Project and powered by Hologic, the event honored those who are helping to change the conversation around uterine fibroids.

It also created space for women to share their stories, ask questions and learn about treatment options that may be available to them.

Building a Bridge Between Education and Care

For Hologic, the event marked a deeper level of partnership with The White Dress Project. While Hologic has sponsored the organization in the past, this year’s involvement focused more directly on helping create a bridge between patient education and care.

A key part of that support was the Hologic Nurse Advocate Program, a free educational resource that provides participants with information about fibroids and abnormal uterine bleeding, and potential treatment options. When appropriate, our nurse advocates can help to connect participants with physicians who offer minimally invasive fibroid care.

Hologic and The White Dress Project partnered on social media to raise awareness of the program and let attendees know that nurse advocates would be available on site. The teams hosted Instagram Live conversations and shared content to reach patients before they arrived.

At the event, Hologic nurse advocates were part of the Wellness House, a space designed to offer attendees education and support. Hologic’s presence took the form of a “fibroid fruit stand,” a creative nod to the way fibroids are often compared to fruit sizes during diagnosis and education.

The booth offered fruit-infused water, patient education materials and direct access to Hologic's nurse advocates who spoke with many women during the event, including patients, community members and attendees gathering information for loved ones.

Helping Patients Understand Their Options

The event also featured a Hologic-sponsored session called “Dialogue with the Doctors,” which focused on the full continuum of fibroid care. The session included Dr. Soyini Hawkins, M.D., MPH; Dr. Holly Miller, M.D.; Dr. Charis Chambers, M.D.; and moderator Lisa France, a CNN journalist who has shared her own fibroid journey publicly. The discussion covered a range of care options, from watchful waiting and medication to minimally invasive procedures including radiofrequency ablation and surgery.

For many attendees, hearing the full range of approaches and treatments was powerful. Several women shared that they wished they had known about these options earlier in their care journeys.

That reaction reinforced the need for more education before patients reach major treatment decisions. It also underscored why Hologic continues to support patient-facing programs all year long that help women ask informed questions and seek care that fits their needs.

The Empowerment Experience also served as a celebration of the trailblazers who are making a difference in fibroid health. Through its Blossom Awards, the White Dress Project recognized changemakers across medicine, policy, media and advocacy, including actress and advocate Lupita Nyong’o, who received the Voice for Change award for her work to raise awareness about fibroids and her own health journey.

Nyong’o also joined The White Dress Project founder Tanika Gray Valbrun for a fireside chat. Together, they spoke about the importance of breaking silence around fibroids and helping more women feel empowered to seek answers about a condition that affects so many but is still often misunderstood or minimized.

Creating Space for Healing and Community

The event also highlighted the strength of The White Dress Project community. Many attendees were patients, caregivers, advocates, clinicians or supporters who had been touched by fibroids in some way. Some came to learn for themselves. Others came to gather information for friends, relatives or future care needs.

That sense of community was central to the event. “The Empowerment Experience was not only about awareness and treatment education — for many, it was also about healing,” said Tori Dobmeier, who leads market development and patient advocacy at Hologic. “Attendees were surrounded by people who truly understood their experiences, creating space for honest conversations and shared support.”

For Hologic, the Empowerment Experience reflects a broader commitment to patient education through the company’s “Better Is Possible” campaign and Know Your U, its patient-facing women’s health platform. By partnering with trusted advocacy groups like The White Dress Project, Hologic aims to reach more women with clear information and help them take the next step in their care journey.

Because when education, advocacy and community come together, more women can feel empowered to ask questions, explore options and seek the care they deserve.
